SLEEPING POD

Short Term Design Project
2018

Project Tutor
Gizem Albayrak

The one square metre night pod project was a unique opportunity to explore the concept of micro-living in a small, yet functional space. Despite the limited area, my aim was to create a personalized and individualized space by customizing the input and output to meet the specific needs of the user.
The project was strategically positioned as a "parasite" structure, intentionally mimicking the natural growth and attachment of plants to trees. However, instead of organic forms, I chose to employ geometric structures to create a visual contrast between the built environment and natural surroundings.
The small size of the night pod project presented a unique challenge in terms of functionality and livability. To address these concerns, I carefully considered every aspect of the design, including the placement of essential amenities and the efficient use of space. By prioritizing functionality and practicality, I was able to create a comfortable living space that could comfortably accommodate a single person.
Despite the limited area, I made sure that the design did not compromise on comfort or convenience. The space was thoughtfully designed to maximize natural light and provide adequate ventilation, ensuring that the inhabitant can enjoy a comfortable living space even in a compact area.
In conclusion, the one square metre night pod project was an exciting challenge that allowed me to explore the concept of micro-living and experiment with innovative design solutions. By using geometric structures and carefully considering the functionality and livability of the space, I was able to create a unique and personalized living space that would be ideal for urban dwellers looking for an individualized and comfortable living experience.
